INIA es una entidad pública de derecho privado encargada de generar, adaptar y transferir tecnologías y conocimientos que respondan a las necesidades y a la realidad del sector agropecuario y del Uruguay. El INIA se coordina y comunica con el Poder Ejecutivo a través del Ministerio de Ganadería, Agricultura y Pesca y trabaja en sinergia
con las gremiales, la institucionalidad agropecuaria, los productores y las entidades nacionales e internacionales públicas y privadas. En el parque tecnológico del Laboratorio Tecnológico del Uruguay (LATU) funciona su Dirección Nacional y cuenta además con estaciones experimentales en los departamentos de Canelones,
Colonia, Tacuarembó, Treinta y Tres y Salto, donde operan los equipos de investigación que desarrollan el trabajo científico para los diferentes sistemas de producción.
Estructura de investigación y desarrollo tecnológico: Sistemas de producción: Agrícola-Ganadero; Arroz-Ganadería; Forestal; Ganadero-Extensivo; Lechero; Vegetal Intensivo. Áreas transversales: Recursos naturales, producción y alimentos; Salud animal; Pasturas y forrajes; Mejoramiento genético y biotecnología vegetal; Producción familiar. Grupos técnicos: Agroalimentos; Economía aplicada; Sistemas de información y transformación digital. |

Most commercial apple orchards are established on either Marubakaido (Malus prunifolia Borkh.) (high vigor), M-9 (Malus pumila) (low vigor), or a combination of both rootstocks through the intergrafting technique. The Geneva® Series rootstocks were developed as an alternative to orchards modernization. The vigor of rootstocks influences the anatomical xylem formation and, therefore, the canopy cultivar's hydraulic conductivity. When affected by embolism, hydraulic conductivity harms plant metabolism, reducing crop yield and fruit quality. This study aimed to evaluate four Geneva® Series rootstocks with potential use in southern Brazil, in terms of hydraulic conductivity (K) and percentage loss of conductance (PLC), during the winter period in two different years. The G.213 rootstock presented the best performance for the variables analyzed; however, higher values of xylem functionality loss were observed in G.814. |
